CHAPLAINCY CENTRE |
|
The Chaplaincy now has a fully furnished office with Internet access and the opportunity to use the community facilities of this magnificent building set in the heart of Central London, thanks to the generosity of St Marylebone Parish Church. This will enable the Chaplaincy to expand the range and remit of its activities, having previously had no centre from which to carry out its activities.

NIGERIAN COMMUNITY
The concern to address the ethno-religious conflicts in Nigeria led the Chaplain to set up an inter-faith body called the ‘Nigeria Reconciliation Group’. The vision of the group is to educate and raise the awareness of ethno-religious conflicts in Nigeria among the Nigerians in Diaspora. Two successful conferences have been held since its inception. The Chaplaincy is involved in advocacy work for the community and provides general pastoral support. In future, we hope to use the platform of NIREG to promote health awareness and other issues affecting the Nigerian Community.
ECUMENICAL WORK
The Chaplaincy works in partnership with some Nigerian independent pastors, OFNC, CANUK to organise the Nigeria Independence Anniversary Thanksgiving Service every year. The Chaplaincy provides a rallying point for the Nigerian Christian Community.
PRISON MINISTRY
The Chaplain visits several UK prisons from time to time on invitation. However, for the last two years work has focused primarily the HMP Vern Portland prison, which has a substantial number of Nigerian inmates. The work in Portland has proved extremely fruitful, and has received the support of the Prison Chaplain and authorities. The Southampton branch of the OFNC also assists in this work too. It is our desire to mobilise other branches of OFNC to be involved in the prison ministry in their local area.
